A Tale of Two Senators

The current antagonism between Republicans and MAGA supporters will prove short-lived, regardless of whether either side relishes their union. Why? Remember the political aphorism that nothing brings antagonists together faster than a common problem.

For the 74 million Americans who in 2020 voted to Keep America Great—including Republicans, MAGA supporters, independents, and Democrats—that problem is the Left and its complicit media and corporate comrades who are intensifying their efforts to coerce and cancel us into submitting to their version of crony socialism.

To illustrate, here is a tale of two senators.

U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) just had his book contract with Simon & Schuster canceled—both literally and figuratively. Hawley’s transgression? He objected to the certification of the Electoral College results due to concerns over how the November election was conducted. Though subjected to severe criticism for his position by his colleagues on both the Left and Right, Hawley performed his senatorial responsibilities in accordance with the U.S. Constitution, federal laws, and the rules and precedents of the Senate.

So, how did Simon & Schuster endeavor to justify the cancellation of Hawley’s contract? The way the Left always does: they cited a subjectively defined “higher duty” to rationalize away their arbitrary and capricious actions: “[W]e take seriously our larger public responsibility as citizens, and cannot support Senator Hawley after his role in what became a dangerous threat to our democracy and freedom.”

Hawley has vowed to sue the publisher, so perhaps Simon & Schuster will be compelled to define the full parameters of their “larger public responsibility as citizens” and when it triggers cancellation of contracts and stifling authors.

Certainly, by its statement, the publisher feels it must sanction Hawley for “his role” in Wednesday’s Capitol rioting. Apparently, the publisher believes if a senator lawfully performs his duties and bad actors subsequently commit crimes, said senator must be cancelled and censored due to the publisher’s aforementioned “larger public responsibility.”

Yet, what of senators who violate their oath of office by demanding the constitutional rights of Americans be stripped for politically disagreeing with them?

After conceding he’d be tweeting a “few disjointed thoughts,” Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) didn’t disappoint as he drowned in a shallow stream of consciousness. The senator used the old trick of conflating his partisan interest with the national interest to justify his injurious desire to serve as judge, jury, and terminator of the constitutional rights of his opponents:

An aspect of preventing this from reoccurring is those who enabled it cannot slide back into their cable pundit, Davos, Wall St, Aspen Institute circuit. The price for supporting an autocrat is you don’t get to opine on Section 230, or tax rates, or whatever. Go away forever.

(Yes, those MAGA hangouts of Davos and the Aspen Institute . . .)

Oblivious to his sworn oath of office, Schatz is equally unaware that by advocating this mass cancellation of his political opponents, it is he who is acting as a wannabe authoritarian—or worse.

Does one recall the senator tweeting a similar proposition when Senator Bernie Sanders’ rhetoric “incited” one of his supporters to open fire on a baseball field of Republicans? Does one recall Simon & Schuster—or any publisher for that matter—canceling book contracts of elected officials who condoned and at times enabled last summer’s Antifa-BLM riots, such as Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, who contributed to a bail fund for those arrested?

This tale of two senators is one more instance in the litany of the Left and their crony media and corporate cohorts’ arbitrary, capricious, and hypocritical double standards and tactics used against Republicans and MAGA supporters to cow them into surrender. The Left is exploiting the tragic, unconscionable events at the Capitol to accelerate their effort and achieve their aims. As they press ahead with their radical agenda, the greatest gift these leftist authoritarians can be given is a rift on the Right.

Fortunately, the harder the Left oppresses them, the more it cements Republicans and MAGA supporters into a populist common cause: the perseveration and promotion of our free republic. Yes, there will be spats and fights along the way as this marriage of convenience evolves into a union of mutual respect. But to part is not an option, for it would not merely be a divorce.

It would be a suicide pact.
